Official representatives of the three twin towns—Robert Gajšek (Šentjur), Neu-Anspach councillor Jürgen Strempel, Saint-Florent mayor Marie-Line Cirre, and Helga Feller, chairwoman of the Neu-Anspach Association for the Promotion of International Relations (VzFiB)—are firmly committed to the trinational town twinning partnership.

Neu-Anspach/Saint-Florent-sur-Cher – Delegations from Neu-Anspach and the Slovenian twin town of Šentjur visited Saint-Florent-sur-Cher over Ascension Day, in the spirit of European friendship. Although the French twinning committee had dissolved in the previous year, the local government—led by Mayor Marie-Line Cirre—took the initiative to continue the tradition.

A diverse programme helped maintain the long-standing personal ties. This was very much in the spirit of Helga Feller, chairwoman of the Neu-Anspach VzFiB, and 33 members who travelled to France. The warm welcome and first evening with host families set the tone.

European Capital of Culture

The following morning, all three delegations shared breakfast in the château, which now houses the town hall. A symbolic highlight followed: together, they planted a Nordmann fir in the park—the “tree of friendship.” After visiting the local market, participants explored the area individually, including the foundry museum and the church in nearby Rosières.

In the evening, a conference at the château focused on Bourges’ designation as European Capital of Culture 2028. Saturday began with sporting activities on Île Soubiran. Trinational teams formed to play Pickleball (a trendy mix of tennis and table tennis), tennis and pétanque in friendly competition. The city provided picnic lunches.

The official farewell took place on Saturday evening with a giant paella and a vibrant dance night featuring live music.

The town representatives—Jürgen Strempel (CDU), Helga Feller, and Robert Gajšek—emphasised the importance of international town twinning in their speeches.

Pillars of peace and unity

In an age of global challenges, geopolitical tensions and societal uncertainty, personal encounters across borders are more important than ever.

Friendship, dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation between people of different nations are indispensable pillars of peace and European unity. They are far more than symbolic—they are a living expression of European solidarity.

Both the Slovenian and German delegations took home a „tree of friendship“ to be planted in Šentjur and Neu-Anspach as a sign of lasting commitment to a united Europe. The weekend was marked by heartfelt hospitality, cultural exchange and a shared belief that town twinning strengthens mutual understanding.

A trinational youth project is planned in Šentjur for 2026 as a prelude to the next citizens’ meeting. This will further deepen cross-generational dialogue and foster European exchange.

Neu-Anspach / Saint-Florent-sur-Cher – Les délégations de Neu-Anspach et de Šentjur (Slovénie) se sont rendues à Saint-Florent-sur-Cher à l’occasion du week-end de l’Ascension, sous le signe de l’amitié européenne. Bien que le comité de jumelage français se soit dissous l’an dernier, la mairie – et notamment Madame la Maire Marie-Line Cirre – a pris l’initiative d’organiser cette rencontre.

Un programme riche et varié a permis de raviver les liens personnels de longue date. Ce fut dans l’esprit d’Helga Feller, présidente de l’association VzFiB, et des 33 autres membres ayant fait le déplacement depuis Neu-Anspach. Dès l’accueil et la première soirée en familles, la chaleur humaine était au rendez-vous.

Capitale européenne de la culture

Le lendemain matin, un petit-déjeuner convivial a été servi au château, aujourd’hui hôtel de ville. Puis un moment symbolique a suivi : les représentants des trois villes ont planté ensemble un sapin de Nordmann dans le parc – un « arbre de l’amitié ». Ces arbres, avec une espérance de vie de plus de 500 ans et de profondes racines, sont une métaphore puissante de la stabilité, de la profondeur et de la résilience des liens entre les villes jumelées.

L’après-midi fut libre, avec des visites du marché, du musée de la fonderie ou de l’église de Rosières. En soirée, les participants ont assisté à une conférence consacrée à la nomination de Bourges, chef-lieu du département du Cher, comme Capitale européenne de la culture 2028.

Jeux, musique et moments partagés

Le samedi matin, place au sport sur l’Île Soubiran, avec des équipes trinationales qui se sont affrontées amicalement au pickleball (nouveau sport mêlant tennis et tennis de table), au tennis et à la pétanque. Un pique-nique a réuni tous les participants autour de repas préparés par la mairie.

La soirée de clôture s’est tenue à l’Espace Robinson, également sur l’Île Soubiran : une ambiance simple, détendue et festive, autour d’une paëlla géante et d’un concert du groupe Kristy Bell, propice aux échanges et à la convivialité.

Les délégations de Šentjur et Neu-Anspach sont reparties avec chacune un « arbre de l’amitié », à planter dans leur ville respective – comme symbole durable de l’amitié et de l’engagement commun pour l’Europe.

Une coopération renforcée en 2026

Dans leurs discours, les représentants des trois villes ont souligné avec force l’importance du dialogue entre citoyens européens, notamment en période de crise. Robert Gajšek, accompagné d’Alenka Testanière pour Šentjur, a invité chaleureusement toutes les villes partenaires à une prochaine rencontre en Slovénie. Elle se tiendra du 14 au 17 mai 2026, lors du week-end de l’Ascension, avec en amont un projet trinational dédié à la jeunesse européenne.
